sym.presar.io is a platform for participatory curation in live music. It is built for presenters who want to hear more of the artists who apply to them, and for a public that wants a real part in what gets presented.
Who plays is decided long before a show. Playlists, platforms and the habits of the trade decide who gets heard at all, and the artists already known are the ones who keep being found. A presenter's call draws far more applications than a small team can listen to with care, and the signals at hand for sorting them come from systems built to hold attention, which say more about placement than about what people would choose if they listened. sym is built to clear that fog with a process.
Artists keep one verified profile on sym and submit it to each presenter's call they choose, with their consent given call by call. Audiences declare the genres they want to judge, then listen in randomized sessions drawn from that field, with a share from outside it, so an unknown name gets the same hearing as a familiar one. They vote on what they heard, one verified voice per person. A vote, not a play. sym builds no profile of its listeners from what they do; it asks them what they want to hear, and then asks them to judge.
For the presenter, the result is curatorial intelligence: a fuller hearing of everyone who applied, more time for consideration, and a record of what their public heard and chose. The vote informs; the presenter decides. Each call sets its own deliberation, public, private jury or both, and the presenter weighs the public's reading with its own judgment and decides. The record shows both, it belongs to the presenter, and anyone can verify it.
Much of live music is funded with public money. sym's wager is that the people it is meant for can take a structured part in how it is spent, and that presenters are stronger for having consulted them. Artist data is never sold, and nothing about an artist moves without their consent. There is no ranking across calls, and no popularity to chase.
sym is being built in Montréal, in consultation with presenters and artists. The artist portal opens in late 2026, and public voting follows.
